Does the WMSCOG Practice Deceptive Recruitment?

Does the WMSCOG Practice Deceptive Recruitment?

The WMSCOG Doesn’t Tell You What They Believe up Front

In recent interviews with the media, Michele Colon has been very vocal against the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG). The following is one of the accusations Michele Colon makes against the Church:

“They don’t tell you what they are all about upfront, because if they did, no one would join them,”

This statement from Colon is influenced by our favorite characters in this show—the “cult experts.” “Cult experts” teach that one of the characteristics of the groups they label as “cults,” is that these groups do not tell you what they believe in up front and they hide it from you. You do not find out what the group really believes in until you have already been “brainwashed.” “Cult experts” call this practice “deceptive recruitment.”

We should ask ourselves the following question: Does the World Mission Society Church of God practice “deceptive recruitment?” Through this article we will find out that once again the answer to this accusation is:

Does the WMSCOG Practice Deceptive Recruitment? Stephen Colbert says: NO

Jesus Christ Also Deceptively Recruited His Disciples

If we are going to accuse the World Mission Society Church of God of “deceptively recruiting” its members, then we must also accuse Jesus of deceptively recruiting His disciples. When you look at the account of Jesus calling His disciples, you do not see much explanation of what Jesus is actually calling them to do.

Matthew 9:9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

John 1:43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”

Jesus Deceptively Recruited His Disciples

When we look at the biblical accounts of Jesus calling His disciples, we never see him explaining in detail everything they are going to face in their life of faith. According to “cult experts,” in order to not deceptively recruit His disciples, Jesus should have said the following:

“Follow me, but let me warn you. You may face jeers and flogging. It’s possible that you could go to prison and remain in chains. You will be stoned; you could be sawed in two; you could be put to death by the sword. You can be shipwrecked; spend a day and a night in the open sea; you will have to constantly be on the move. You will be in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from your own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles, in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea, and in danger from false brothers. You will have to labor and toil and often go without sleep; you will know hunger and thirst and will often go without food; you will be cold and naked. Besides everything else, you will daily face the pressure of having concern for all the Churches.”

This is the life the disciples had to undergo as they followed Jesus. But since Jesus did not tell them all those things from the beginning, according to “cult experts,” Jesus deceptively recruited them. It wasn’t until after Jesus had them fully indoctrinated that Jesus finally told them about the difficulties they might face.

John 21:18 I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.”

If we go by the standards of “cult experts,” and individuals like Michele Colon, then we must say Jesus was a deceiver who did not tell His followers up front what they would go through as a result of following Him. But we know that is not the case. The truth is that Jesus first had to show them the evidence of why He was the Christ and, through His works and teachings, let them come to the conclusion themselves.

Who can explain the whole Bible in 15 minutes?

Information Control in the WMSCOG

No one can explain nor understand the Bible and its history in a 15-minute conversation. The fact is that our Christian faith is derived from the teachings of the Bible and we believe in Christ because of the prophecies He fulfilled, as recorded in the bible.

John 5:39-40 You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

Two thousand years ago, Jesus clearly said that the scriptures (the Old Testament at the time) testified about Him. This means that, at that time, for us to understand why Jesus is the source of eternal life, we would first need to understand the Scriptures. Understanding these scriptures is what led His disciples to follow him.

John 1:44-45 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

Due to their understanding of the scriptures and the prophecies about the Messiah, the disciples were able to recognize the Christ. But what do you do when a person doesn’t believe the Bible? You would first have to teach him why the Bible is true. Then, teach him why he should believe in Jesus. Then, he could learn about God’s commands and how to keep them. Finally, he could understand about Second Coming Christ and God the Mother.

The WMSCOG does not deceptively recruit members.

I have been a member of the World Mission Society Church of God for some time now, and I can say with certainty that the Church does not hide its beliefs. In fact, we are very open about it.

When we look at the following videos of the WMSCOG being recognized by different state governments, we can see that the recipients were very upfront about what the Church believes in.

The videos below show the Resolution Ceremony granting awards to our Church in different city halls of the United States, as well as interviews with Church members. As you can see, the members clearly testify to our faith in Christ Ahnsahnghong and Heavenly Mother.

You can also see a copy of the welcome message form the Church website. Here, you will find that Christ Ahnsahnghong founded the Church and that we believe and follow God the Mother.

WMSCOG English WATV Introduction Page

On the same page, you will find a link to the Church’s introductory video. This video clearly shows the Church’s beliefs as well as the history of the Church. As you can see the evidence, the Church does not hide its beliefs and these are easily accessible for anyone to read.

The WMSCOG is not what they make it out to be

The problem stems from the critics’ misrepresentation of the Church. They have their own opinion about how the Church should teach its theology. The truth is that everyone who studies the Bible at the Church of God comes from a different background. Everyone’s experience in studying at the Church of God is different. However, critics twist and misinform the public about the Church’s theology and beliefs.

Let me give you an example. What if a Christian came to you and said the following:

“Come to our Church. We believe that a Jewish carpenter in his 30’s, who was single, hung around prostitutes and tax collectors, spoke against the religious leaders, was crucified (but whom we believe came back to life), promised us life in another place if we eat his flesh and drink his blood, and claimed to be the king of a kingdom we cannot see right now. We believe this man is God.”

All the things above could be said about Jesus Christ and they are true. But without having a good understanding of the Bible, they will not be able to understand why these things make Jesus God. In the same way, those who speak against the Church of God expect that when Church members meet someone for the first time, they say things, which, first of all are not true, and second of all, are an inappropriate way to teach the scriptures.

Let us not be influenced by the mischaracterization created by “cult experts” and their side-kicks, but instead let us believe the Bible. Visit your nearest World Mission Society Church of God. All your questions can be answered through a Bible study.

Wow this was one of the most touching articles. I was moved to tears watching the videos. How can people have the desire to consistently attack a church that is doing nothing but giving up themselves for greater hope of mankind? It literally makes no sense. Either way the good will always come first.

  2. David G.

This insistence makes no sense to me at all. When a member first approached me, the member told me was that the 2nd coming Christ already came and Heavenly Mother was in the Bible so that’s what me want to study and now become a member of the Church of God. Clearly Michele is running some kind of agenda against the church.

  3. Shannon Peraza

We as members of the church of God clearly express our belief in God the Mother. This is what set us apart form all the other churches is because we firmly believe in the truth of the bible, which is Second Coming Chirst Ahnsahnghong and Our Heavenly Mother. We boldly proclaim and let everyone know right away about the only way in which we can receive salvation. Through Second coming Chirst and God the Mother . There are no secrets here just the 100% truth of the bible.

This article is great! As a member of the World Mission Society Church of God I can say that the church is very open to always answer any questions through the bible never hiding the truth, But teaching one by one all the fundamental truths of the Bible. Such as the Sabbath day, the Passover of the new covenant, the feast of God, all the commandments of God and about God the Mother. Through the teachings of the Bible and the prophecies I learned in the church of God. I came to realize fully believe that Christ Ahnsahnghong and Heavenly Mother New Jerusalem are God.

The links provided in this article are more prove that the church is eager to testify and proclaim it’s believes And to share the truth of life with everyone.

Thank you for this amazing article!

In the country of Haiti, many people come to the Church of God because they first hear that we believe in Heavenly Mother and Second coming Christ. This is what captures their interest and allows them to remain active in the church.

Opposite to what people say, the Church of God, tells you upfront what we believe as it comes directly from the scriptures…no need to hide.

What a ridiculous claim. Is there any religion that can explain all it’s beliefs in one or two meetings? That’s impossible. Catholic and many Protestant doctrines alone have so many books of theology explaining their beliefs. People aren’t taught all of these things at once or sometimes ever, but they teach members to just believe and follow. Then, why don’t they accuse those religions of using deceptive recruitment and not telling them all their beliefs up front? They don’t even explain to you why you do anything, but just follow traditions. Yet wmscog shows through the Bible all the commands and teachings of God so people know what they’re doing and why. It just takes time to learn as there’s so many teachings. I wish we could teach the whole Bible in a day but it contains infinite truth and studying never stops. But that’s labeled as deceptive recruitment? That sounds actually the very opposite compared with other churches!

It seems a bit ridiculous to just “assume” that the WMSCOG deceptively recruit its members. If that was the case why is the church putting all efforts into this website for the very purpose of letting everyone know who has doubts about the church from other people? I feel like if you really want to receive Salvation and want to know the True God and where they dwell to just come and study the Living proofs of the Bible given by Creator God. Then you will truly know that everything others say negatively about our church is False.

You know Adam and Eve were deceived by the serpent -the devil in the garden of Eden.. And you know how.. With a LIE. We preach Christ, God in the flesh -a stumbling block for many. And you know which word we use to preach.. THE BIBLE. THE TRUTH.. Not a lie.

If you don’t wish to belief in God in the flesh.. That is up to you. But not only those who don’t believe in God in the flesh but also those who Listen to those who speak against God in the flesh, Heavenly Mother New Jerusalem and Christ AhnSahngHong
Even if you listen to them.. You are just like Adam and Eve who listened to the serpent in the Gard of Eden. Please please have discernment. If you truly want to have eternal life please. Think about the Jews 2000 years ago; they saw Christ physically.. Not through the prophecies or words in the bible and what did they come to say.. They said “let His blood be on us and on our children.”

Let’s not repeat the same thing as 2,000 years ago.

Those who are deceptively recruiting are trying to make you deny the bible and the laws of God and are even inciting some with money.. Sad but true. Just think of Judas Iscariot

  9. Jose Rojas

I completely disagree with Ms. Colon, what she is saying is a 100% lie. when I came to the church and studied the bible I saw all the studies I would be doing, listed in a board, and one of the first studies I had was about how to be forgiven and who Christ Ahnsahnghong is, and about God the Mother , so . So there’s no deceptive recruitment , it’s a false claim.

Wow! This Article just touched my heart! To see that God Elohim is being proclaimed boldly in every nation and community service is being completed makes me believe even harder. Aside what the critics say, joining The World Mission Society Church of God is the best thing that ever happened to me and for those who misinform and misinterpret our message I believe you too will understand when God gives you understanding. We Love You! Please come join us As we strive to save mankind.

  11. Michael H

I was so moved by the videos!!! I can’t believe Michele Colon said that “we don’t say what we believe upfront”, what a lie! The WMSCOG is totally up front with the Bible studies! and whatever question I asked they answered! Come and see for yourself!
There is no “deceptive recruitment” and by the way Michele…everyone is joining us! Truth always wins!

  12. Cory

Hi! I read this and also heard what Michele Colon said “They don’t tell you what they are all about upfront, because if they did, no one would join them.” and I wanted to share apart of my story because it’s the opposite of what she said.

My friend invited me to the Church of God about 6 years ago and told me up-front about God the mother- I still went. Then I saw a picture of Heavenly Mother hanging on the wall of the church. When I asked my friend who the lady in the picture was, she told me upfront “that’s God the Mother!” – I still had a bible study. After my study, I decided to attend the service that night. As the service began, we were singing new songs and I noticed the name “Ahnsahnhong.” When I asked her, she told me upfront that he was God and that, that was the new name of Jesus. After seeing through the Bible during service, I decided to be baptized that same night! There was no deception at all! She answered all my questions right away and I saw everything though the Bible. I’m not saying that I knew the entirety of the WMSCOG teachings before I decided to be a member- that’s impossible! As a student of anything, you never can learn it all. We will always be students and that definitely is true when it comes to the Bible. I STILL don’t know it all and have been a member for 6 years! Does that mean they “deceptively recruited” me? I think not…

So when she said that if people knew up front, nobody would join them, sorry Michele, but that’s not true 🙂

Im wandering if these cult experts and colon do not pay enough attention. Reason I say this is because in many cases the first thing you are asked before you come to the Church of God is do you know God the Mother in the Bible? And then most times you are shown at the moment the scriptures! Also in my case the very first thing I studied in the Church of God was the “Tree of Life and Christ Ahnsanhghong ” so I am very confused on where this small group I individuals are gaining there opinions and false testimony from! I hope that people Come to the Church of God themselves and be amazed at all the truths in the bible!

  14. Chanel

People don’t understand why we enjoy to study the bible, boast about our God to others, and follow Christ the way we do. To them it doesn’t make sense so they try to make up false accusations. But to us, we have hope for heaven. We know God watches us at all times and sees our efforts. We know God is happy when we do Their will. So the reason we do what we do is because we are happy when God is happy, we have hope for heaven, and we have have joy and laughter when we are with each other. So yeah, it’s not going to make sense to people and it never will unless they come and see for themselves.

  15. Antonia

If anything, I think the WMSCOG is the most public about what it believes. Why do you think this website exists? To show the world what we believe and to dismiss any rumors that people make up about the church.
