WMSCOG and Christmas

Jesus was not born December 25th – WMSCOG and Christmas

Finding out Christmas is not Jesus’ birthday is one of my favorite things I learned when I started attending the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG).Before going to the Church, I already heard that Jesus was not born on December 25th, but the WMSCOG confirmed it for me when no other church could give me a clear answer about this topic. Now many people have no idea about this, and to them it comes as a surprise, however the history and evidence against Christmas is clear.

Most people are under the impression that Christmas is Jesus’ birthday, however they are totally mistaken. Christmas is in actuality, a festival in honor of the sun-god, Mithra. Now, let’s take a careful look at various elements which testify the date of Jesus’ birth was not December 25th and that this day was celebrated in ancient Rome as the birthday of the sun-god.

The History of Christmas

The middle of winter has long been a time of celebration around the world. Centuries before the arrival of Jesus into this earth, early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of winter. Many people rejoiced during the winter solstice, when the worst of the winter was behind them and they could look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight.

In Scandinavia, the Norse celebrated Yule from December 21st, the winter solstice, through January. In recognition of the return of the sun, fathers and sons would bring home large logs, which they would set on fire. The people would feast until the log burned out, which could take as many as 12 days. The Norse believed that each spark from the fire represented a new pig or calf that would be born during the coming year.

The end of December was a perfect time for celebration in most areas of Europe. At that time of the year, most cattle were slaughtered so they would not have to be fed during the winter. For many, it was the only time of the year when they had a supply of fresh meat. In addition, most wine and beer made during the year was finally fermented and ready for drinking.

In Germany, people honored the pagan god Odin during the mid-winter holiday. Germans were terrified of Odin, as they believed he made nocturnal flights through the sky to observe his people, and then decide who would prosper or perish. Because of his presence, many people chose to stay inside.

In Rome, where winters were not as harsh as those in the far north, Saturnalia – a holiday in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture—was celebrated. Beginning in the week leading up to the winter solstice and continuing for a full month, Saturnalia was hedonistic time, when food and drink were plentiful and the normal Roman social order was turned upside down. For a month, slaves would become masters. Peasants were in command and the city Business and schools were closed so that everyone could join in the fun.

Also around the time of the winter solstice, Romans observed Juvenalia, a feast honoring the children of Rome. In addition, members of the upper classes often celebrated the birthday of Mithra, the god of the Unconquerable sun, on December 25th. It was believed that Mithra, an infant god, was born of a rock. For some Romans, Mithra’s birthday was the most sacred day of the year.

Infiltration of Christmas in Christianity

In the early years of Christianity the birth of Jesus was not celebrated. In the 4th century, Catholic Church officials decided to institute the birth of Jesus as a holiday. Unfortunately, the Bible does not mention the date of Jesus birthday. The evidence suggests that his birth may have occurred in the spring — I mean, why would shepherds be herding in the middle of winter?

Luke 2:8 – And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.

Pope Julius I chose December 25th. It is commonly believed that the Catholic Church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions of the pagan festivals of Saturnalia and Juvenalia. First called the Feast of the Nativity, the custom spread to Egypt by 432 AD and to England by the end of the sixth century. By the end of the 8th century, the celebration of Christmas had spread all the way to Scandinavia. Today, in the Greek and Russian orthodox churches, Christmas is celebrated 13 days after December 25th, which is also called the Epiphany or Three Kings Day. This is the day supposedly that the wise men finally found Jesus in the manger — because it makes “sense” for people at that time to travel in the middle of winter.

So what’s so wrong about Celebrating Christmas?

Well there is nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas if you are not a Christian, but if you claim to be a Christian then you are completely going against to what God said in the Bible. As you may or may not be aware, the first commandment among the 10 commandments is to not have other gods besides the God of the Bible.

Exodus 20:3 – You shall have no other gods before me.

However in celebrating Christmas you are honoring the birth of the sun-god, since it was the sun-god who is claimed to have been born on this day, and not Jesus Christ.

Some apologetics may say the following: “Although December 25th is the birthday of the sun-god, we don’t celebrate it in his honor; we do it in the honor of Jesus, so it is OK to celebrate Christmas”

Under that logic many people are deceived and manipulated to believe it is OK to celebrate Christmas, however there are two points that make it completely wrong, even under that excuse:

  1. Jesus was not born December 25th, simple enough it is not the day he was born, so it doesn’t make sense to celebrate it on this day.
  2. God already warned us not to worship God in the way other people or religions worship their gods.

Deuteronomy 12:29-32 – The Lord your God will cut off before you the nations you are about to invade and dispossess. But when you have driven them out and settled in their land… be careful not to be ensnared by inquiring about their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? We will do the same.” You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates…

You cannot claim to be a Christian and celebrate this man-made tradition known as Christmas.

Mark 7:6-7 – He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men.”

All the WMSCOG wants to do is ruin my family.

Due to the fact that this erroneous celebration known as Christmas is tightly connected to spending time with the family, members — who realize that Christmas is wrong and decide, by their own free will, not to keep it — are immediately accused of ruining the family. Families then turn and accuse the WMSCOG of destroying the family because the Church teaches Christmas is not a Christian celebration.

This type of accusation displays the lack of religious tolerance people have today. Why should the fact that we choose to not celebrate something that is a complete lie endanger my family relationship? It is absurd to think and insist on this idea. As the saying goes: “blood is thicker than water,” so whether we celebrate Christmas or not, it does not make me more or less part of my family.

If it’s about spending time as a family, why don’t we spend time as family while we celebrate the Feasts of God as they are in the Bible? We can spend time as a family while we celebrate the day of Resurrection, or during the Feast of Tabernacles? Why don’t we spend time as a family in the Church while we worship God correctly?

Judge for yourself: would you rather keep something that is clearly a lie, as it is in the case of Christmas? Or would you rather keep a celebration that is clearly described in the Bible?

As far as I’m concerned… I will go with the latter.

I’m ready glad that this article was posted. I remember that before I attended the WMSCOG I ran into an article stating that December 25 was the birthday of the sun-god. This made me question the rest of the teachings that were being taught in churches and wondered if everything else they kept was correct. Not until I attended the WMSCOG then everything became clear and realIzed the truth found in the bible. God never appointed Christmas as a Christian celebration but instead taught us that we should keep the Feast of God such as the Sabbath day and Passover.

It’s amazing to me that people make comments about the “real reason” for Christmas, celebrating Christ’s birth, being lost. When you actually look at the history, Christmas was never really about celebrating the birth of Christ. Not to mention the fact that it’s not Christ’s birth date. Before joining the WMSCOG Christmas was my “favorite holiday”. I myself in the last couple of years that I celebrated it tried getting my family to incorporate “the real reason” for Christmas. My sister and her son first joined the church in March and when she told me about the history of Christmas and why we shouldn’t celebrate it anymore I was upset at her and didn’t care why “she” thought we shouldn’t celebrate it. I figured things would just go on as “normal” and our family would just celebrate it without her. Then, my mom and oldest nephew joined the church in July of the same year and I was so upset and one of the biggest reasons was because every holiday we celebrated we did so at my mom’s house. How on earth can we celebrate Christmas without my mom??? So now I had to try my best to convince my mom that there was nothing wrong with celebrating Christmas. I mean, we didn’t celebrate it as a religious holiday as it was! I said to her, “we never celebrate Jesus’ birthday anyway…It’s just a time for us to get together and give gifts and have family time and eat together…we don’t worship the tree, etc, it’s just decoration…it’s a magical time for the kids.” I tried my best to justify why we should still celebrate Christmas, to no avail. Then a little at a time Father and Mother opened my eyes to the truth that my sister and mother were sharing with me. Little by little, I began really listening to what they were saying and coming to study and keeping service with them. December 25, 2010 came and I remember waking up that morning and feeling sad because this would be the first Christmas in my 35 years that we would not come together as a family and celebrate the holiday together. Sabbath Day just happened to be the same day that year and my mom called and invited me to dinner at Zion and evening service, after spending most of the day depressed and by myself. So I agreed, and that evening after service myself, my younger brother and my niece were all baptized into the truth…the greatest reason to celebrate on this day! Thanks to Father and Mother for revealing the truth about Christmas and all other truths to me. Today, I celebrate the Passover of the New Covenant and all the feasts of God that lead to life with the majority of my family, all thanks to Father and Mother! No longer do we worship God in vain on man made days!

Before studying at the World Mission Society Church of God, I had no idea that December 25th was not the birthday of Jesus. I was surprised that all the churches I had been to in the past lied about it saying, “Let’s put ‘Christ’ back in Christmas.” Christ was never there in the first place! It really doesn’t make any sense for Christian churches to insist on the celebration.

I am thankful that God led me to the World Mission Society Church of God so I could learn how to worship God correctly, keeping the feasts of God as written in the Bibke with the Spirit and the Bride, Christ Ahnsahnghong and Heavenly Mother.

This is a great article showing the truth about Christmas. Many people know that Christmas is not Jesus’s birthday, however even though they know, they think that it is okay. However, Christmas is nothing more than a pagan worship day. It is the celebration of the sun god mithra which is another god, not the God of the Bible. Everyone is free to worship whoever they want…..however if we claim to be Christian and claim to believe in the God of the Bible, then what does the God Almighty of the bible think about us participating in pagan customs?

1 Corinthians 10:19-22 says, “Do I mean then that sacrifices offered to an idol is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of The Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?”

Then what does the God of the Holy Bible say? We should not participate in the pagan feast of Christmas as Christians! Instead let us celebrate the Passover which is in the spring time…..and interestingly enough many people know that Christ’s birth happened around the spring time…..we should worship and celebrate on the feast of the Passover which gives us eternal life according to the Bible!

i really wish those who dont understand would take a second to read articles like these. this article in particular is one of my favorites because growing up ive never liked christmas since ive never understood it. ive never really understood why it was only on this day could i be with my family, and once i found out that the entire being of santa was a lie i really didnt have anything to do with it anymore. nobody likes being lied to especially continually, so now that the lie of this holiday has been exposed and the truth of it is revealed, why would anybody in their right mind choose to be lied to anymore or choose to continue lying to their family. the WMSCOG doesnt ruin families…opens eyes is more of a better description. thank Father and Mother we can now come to a place where the lies of the world no longer dwell, truly they are GOD

  6. hassler

If we find out the origin of Christmas via Internet, you can understand easily,it is not the birthday of Jesus but of Sun-god originated from Rome !!
Then,do you wanna celebrate the day for Jesus?
    No !!

  7. jj

It’s not the birthday of Jesus Christ on Christmas.
never written in the bible about Jesus Christ birthday is Christmas.

  8. It is natural that someone who believes in God keep a celebration that is described in the Bible; furthermore, we should check whether the way we worship God is consistent with the Bible. Christmas is not described in any verse and the right way of worshiping God. So I will go with the latter too.

I am also thankful for this article. My family loves to celebrate Christmas, but looking back the thing I liked the most was just being with my family at a time when none of us had to work or attend school. Now that I know the truth about Christmas, it does not mean that I do not want to be with my family. It means that I choose not to attend church services on that day, receive gifts, or take pictures with the tree. Otherwise, I am happy to be with my family whom I love so dearly. Unfortunately, Christmas has become a custom that is widely accepted by Christians and now it is tradition that is hard to break away from. But it is nothing more than man’s tradition and not from the words of God. I am eternally grateful to God because I can live a life according to the Bible by keeping the annual Feasts of God and the weekly Feast of God, the Sabbath. These are truly joyful assemblies that are testified in the New and Old Testaments as the way to meet God that we should neither add to nor take away from (Rev 22:18-19).

  10. Kim

Everyone should be exposed to the true origin and meaning of Christmas. I didn’t have any idea until I came to the Church of God. I was wasting a lot of time and money on worshiping other gods and idols without even knowing it. I am so thankful to finally know the truth!

  11. Laura B

I wish more people understood the underlying meaning of christmas, it really is a scheme of satan, disguised as a joyful celebration in the name of Christ. When reading this article and watching the video I am moved to tears how mislead this world has become. The only one we can turn to for eternal life is true God Elohim, and the bible is very clear that worship of other Gods is against Gods will because they can not take you to heaven. The bible is the trust worthy source for you to know God, bible study of the true interpretation is essential for anyone who wishes to label them self as a christian. I am very thankful to receive these teachings directly from the bible at the World Mission Society Church of God so I can know the difference between right and wrong in God’s eyes.

So glad there is a post about the underlining truth of christmas. As there are many people that know christmas being the birthday of Jesus is a lie there are still many in the dark that do not know. I believe those who truly want to follow and please God will make the little effort to realize that christmas being the birthday of Christ is a lie.

As this article holds much proof it shows that even if we worship God on the birthday of mohamed or any other day.. ie. the birthday of sun god it is worshipping God in vain. In human standards this shouldn’t be so harmful but in the standards and judgements of God who knows all things and can see the spiritual world this is truly a harmful and detestable thing for the mere fact that the offerings are not going to God..

“No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.”
    ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:20‬ ‭NIV

It’s considerable that it’s hard to accept that christmas is a lie as it has been practiced for so many years but there is much historical proof and Biblical verses that show that truly it is a pagan practice. But as we should all know many christians will not enter heaven. Even the bible prophecies that pagan offerings and worshipping of the Sun itself will enter the churches.

“Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and I saw women sitting there, mourning the god Tammuz. He said to me, “Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this.” He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.”
    ‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭8:14-16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If after considering all these things that you’d like to truly still participate in christmas I don’t know what to say to you.

  13. Yema

Actually many people, Christian and non-Christian alike, know that Christmas is not the birthday of Jesus, but they put the reasoning behind it that because the day’s purpose is to spend time with the family that makes it okay. If someone participates in the literal worship of Satan in a satanic temple, following the order of the practices of that worship to Satan saying it’s no longer worship to Satan because its purpose is to worship Christ, does it for that reason stop being a worship to Satan? Or here’s one. Let’s say it’s not my birthday on a particular day. If my family continues giving gifts to me and celebrating saying happy birthday, does the day become my birthday? We are well acquainted with the saying “actions speak louder than words.” Although people celebrate the day honoring the sun-god’s birth saying it’s for Jesus doesn’t make the day what they claim it to be, especially when X-mas is not Jesus’ actual birthday. We should see it from God’s perspective.
